What our customers say
Read reviews from 40+ Palm Coast and Flagler County homeowners who trust Christian for water heaters, repairs, filtration and repipes.
Christian arrived in a timely manner and evaluated the problem that I had. He offered his solution, that I agreed with, and he fixed it on the spot. You can't ask for more than that!
Christian has done a few plumbing jobs for me. The last job was replacing the garbage disposal. His crew came out today to fix a loud clanking noise. There was a screw in a "pocket" that I could not feel when I checked for something stuck. No charge! Christian's other plumbing jobs were done quickly and professionally.
We contacted Christian about a broken line from our water heater. He sent Paul out right away to assess the situation. Paul arrived the next morning to install the new water heater. He was awesome; explained everything he was doing, worked efficiently, cleaned up the entire area and made sure that the job was done right.
Chris and his helper were a pleasure to deal with. Prompt and did outstanding work. His prices were reasonable. He sent an itemized invoice describing the work and price before they came out. There were no surprises. I had him repair a shower faucet, outside faucets and toilet. He also installed a garbage disposal.
Christian at Florida Plumbing & Inspection is fantastic! He is a professional that knows what he is doing. He has done several projects for us. He is always on time, knowledgeable, professional, neat, dependable and very pleasant. He installed a water filtration system at two of our homes, as well as other plumbing work.
Contacted Christian regarding a water heater upgrade/repair required by an insurance company. He responded immediately and the work was performed the very next day, complete with photos of the completed work. Awesome service. Highly recommend Florida Plumbing & Inspection for all your plumbing needs.
What a relief it is to find honest and capable professionals for your home. Alex and Christian installed a new whole house water system, and also installed release valves in our tankless water heater (which our builder plumber had neglected to do).
Christian just installed a new Rheem heat pump water heater. He is a real gentleman and master plumber. Third time I have hired him. He has done a excellent job. I highly recommend him.

How much does a water heater installation cost in Palm Coast?
In Palm Coast, replacing a standard 40- or 50-gallon electric water heater typically costs $1,400–$2,100 installed. That price includes the Rheem unit, a new thermal expansion tank, new supply lines and shut-off valve, a drain pan, haul-away of the old heater, and the City of Palm Coast permit when one is required. A Rheem heat-pump (hybrid) water heater runs $2,800–$3,900 installed and uses roughly 60–70% less electricity than a standard tank, which is why FPL rebates and many insurers favor them.
I'm Christian Laymon, a master plumber (FL Lic. RF11067918) based in Palm Coast. Most replacements are done the morning after you text me a photo of the label. If your heater is under about eight years old and only needs an element, thermostat or T&P valve, I'll tell you — that repair usually runs $180–$350.
What your water heater is telling you
| Symptom | What it usually means | What I do |
|---|---|---|
| Lukewarm water, or it runs out fast | A failed lower element or thermostat | Repair on the same visit — parts are on the truck |
| Rumbling or popping when it heats | Sediment on the bottom of the tank (Palm Coast water is hard) | Flush it; if the tank is past 10 years, replace it |
| Water on the floor around the base | The tank itself is leaking at a seam | Replace — tanks can't be repaired once they weep |
| Rusty water on the hot side only | Anode rod is used up and the tank is corroding | Replace before it fails; usually within weeks |
| A letter from your insurance company | The heater is past your carrier's age limit | Replace and send you completion photos for the file |
Water heaters I install and repair
I install Rheem because I can get parts for them in Palm Coast the same day. Every install gets the same details: expansion tank, new valves, pan, and a stand where flooding is a risk.
Rheem electric tank (40 / 50 gal)
The right heater for most Palm Coast homes. Six-year and twelve-year tank options; I'll tell you which one makes sense for your water and your plans for the house.
Rheem heat-pump (hybrid) water heater
Pulls heat from garage air instead of burning electricity. Cuts the water-heating part of your bill by more than half. Needs about a closet's worth of air space; I'll check yours before quoting.
Tankless — when it actually makes sense
Great for a small home on gas. For an electric Florida home a tankless unit often needs a panel upgrade, so I'll give you a straight answer before you spend the money.
Thermal expansion tanks
Required on closed systems and one of the first things a four-point inspection looks for. I use Wolverine Brass tanks and set the air charge to your house pressure.
Raised installs for flood-prone homes
In the Hammock, Flagler Beach and Marineland I set heaters on a stand and add a pan with a drain line. Flooding is a matter of when, not if.
Insurance-required replacements
Carrier says the heater has to go? I do the swap to current code and send you dated photos and a completion note the same day so the underwriter has what they need.

Water heaters in Hammock, Flagler Beach and Palm Coast homes
A water heater in Flagler County works harder than the same unit up north. Our municipal water is hard, so sediment settles fast and shortens tank life; a yearly flush is the cheapest maintenance you can buy. Salt air on the barrier island eats unprotected fittings, which is why I pipe heaters in copper or brass and not in cheap braided lines.
- Barrier-island homes (the Hammock, Flagler Beach, Marineland): heater goes on a stand, with a pan and a drain line, so a storm surge doesn't take out a $2,000 appliance.
- 1970s–80s ITT-era homes in Palm Harbor, Indian Trails and Pine Lakes: original heaters on the slab, no expansion tank, gate valves that won't close. I bring all of it to code in one visit.
- Insurance four-point inspections are flagging heaters over 12–15 years old across Flagler County. If you get the letter, send it to me and I'll tell you exactly what has to change.

Water heater questions
Usually the next morning, and often the same day if you text me before noon. I stock the common 40- and 50-gallon Rheem electric units, so there's no waiting on a supply house.
For most homes with the heater in the garage, yes. A Rheem hybrid uses about a third of the electricity of a standard tank and the garage never gets cold enough here to hurt its efficiency. It needs roughly 700 cubic feet of air around it and a place to drain condensate; I check both before quoting.
Often, yes. Many Florida carriers won't renew a policy with a water heater over 12–15 years old, and four-point inspections flag missing expansion tanks and pans. I do the replacement to code and send dated photos and a completion note you can forward to your agent.
If your home has a backflow preventer or pressure-reducing valve at the meter — most Palm Coast homes do — then yes, code requires one. Without it, pressure spikes every time the heater runs and shortens the life of every valve and fixture in the house.
On the barrier island and anywhere that has flooded, I recommend it. A stand plus a pan with a drain line costs a couple hundred dollars and saves the heater in a storm surge. In a dry inland garage it's optional.
A 50-gallon electric tank covers a family of four with one or two bathrooms. If you have a garden tub or a large walk-in shower with multiple heads, I'll look at the fixture count before recommending a size or a hybrid unit.
Eight to twelve years for a standard electric tank, and the hard municipal water here pushes most of them toward the low end. A yearly flush and a new anode rod around year five are the two things that get you to twelve. Heat-pump units are rated for about the same tank life but the heat-pump section has its own warranty.
Yes. The City of Palm Coast and Flagler County both require a plumbing permit for a water heater replacement, and the inspector checks the expansion tank, T&P discharge line and seismic strapping. I pull the permit, meet the inspector and bill the fee at cost — you don't do anything.
Almost always a shorted heating element — the sheath cracks, water gets in and the element grounds out. Sometimes it's a stuck thermostat that lets the tank overheat and trip the high-limit switch. Both are a same-visit repair on a tank that's under ten years old; on an older tank I'll tell you if the money is better spent on a replacement.
Yes, as long as it's the right size and voltage for your home and it's new in the box. The $96 service call and labor are itemized the same way; the only difference is that the warranty on the unit itself runs through the store instead of through me. If it turns out to be the wrong unit, I'll tell you before I start, not after.
